Community
The Bull is central to the community of Ditchling and supports a number of local groups, events and charities. These include the Shine Theatre Trust in Hurstpierpoint, an annual charity cricket match in aid of St James and St Peters Hospice, Ditchling’s cricket and rugby clubs, community events such as days out to glorious goodwood and a golf society. With local resident, radio and tv presenter Jamie Theakston, we have also organised a celebrity cricket match in aid of other local charities.
In May 2009 we helped sponsor a trip by the Ditchling cricket team to Kabul in Afghanistan, whose own team had visited Ditchling to play in 2006. Our village team was the first from the west to play the Afghans in their home country – they thrashed us at the game, of course, but we met some amazing people who left us deeply touched by their humanity and openness. During our trip we also delivered clothing to a local orphanage, which provides 28 girls with love, support and an education they were previously denied under the
Taliban regime.
