At Ditchling's heart is the Bull (01273 843147, thebullditchling.com), a 16th-century coaching inn with four smallish bedrooms and its own cricket team. We like the Ruby room, with its oxblood walls, bateau bed and roll-top bath. Food is fairly priced - generously portioned favourites (steak, hake and chips), plus inventive dishes featuring local produce. Doubles start at £80, B&B.
