Our Local Area

There are a great many ways to while away the hours in the heart of the picture-perfect South Downs.

Whether you’re staying in one of our six comfy rooms above the pub, or simply day trippin’ – our neck of the woods is spot on.

Whack-on your wellies for an amble-and-ramble through the countryside, or slip on your Sunday best and hit the bright lights of Brighton – the choice is yours.

Ditchling Village

Ditchling is a quaint, olde-worlde village. Some of our buildings are over 500 years old (including The Bull) so mooching around is a bit like going back in time.

Ditchling Museum is ideal for a visit, and St Margaret’s church is a must-see. 1940’s style Nutmeg Café (just round the corner) serves up darling, traditional cream teas – certainly worth a stop in on your travels.

Local Farmer’s Market

If you’re in the neighbourhood on a Thursday (9-2) add this to your holiday bucket-list.

Ed at the Sussex Peasant runs a pop-up farmers market at The Bull. You can pick up wonderfully wonky carrots, local honey, enormous loaves of locally baked bread, and other Sussex goodies.

Ditchling Beacon

Beloved Sussex beauty-spot for countryside stomps, dog walks, or for hard-core cycling.

It’s just a 5 minute drive from the pub (or there’s a loop to walk from our door) Ditchling Beacon is perfect for taking in the fresh air, and that beautiful 360 degree South Downs view.

Brighton & Hove

From the iconic Brighton Pier, historic Royal Pavillion, to the bustling beaches – central Brighton is just 15 minutes away and offers a plethora of pleasurable ways to pass the time.

Be sure to wander down the Lanes. This quirky labyrinth is a joy to wander around with its narrow alleyways, hidden squares, independent shops, dazzling jewellers and plenty of pubs & cafes to eat, drink and watch the world go by.

Ridgeview Vineyard

If you’re a big fan of quaffing some top-knotch British wine (and who isn’t) then we recommend you grab a cab and head 5 mins up the road to this stunning vineyard.

These wine-whizz experts have crafted wines for over 25 years. There are tours and tastings aplenty.

Once you’ve learned about the wines at the vineyard, why not pop by afterwards and tell us all about your day – or just enjoy a glass of wine in our lovely garden.

Mac’s Farm

Check out Mac’s farm, a heart of the community here in Ditchling providing the best organic eggs – right to our tables! Not only that, but there are annual festivals that take place.

Once you’ve had a day there, why not have some of the eggs straight from the farm on your plate?! We get our eggs delivered from them locally!

So there we have it. A round-up of things to do when visiting the stunning county of Sussex.

Hopefully, we’ve left you feeling inspired to get out-and-about for your weekend (or longer) stay in Ditchling. But if it all seems like too much effort, simply treat yourself to something scrumptious to nibble (and to drink) and settle down in our enormous garden.

Because, after all – isn’t that the true joy of staying in a pub?

Happy holidays indeed.
